THE 2008 TATTOO

Welcome to the first annual South African Tattoo

Blending the traditional spectacle of massed pipe bands with a uniquely African flavour and spectacular acts from as far afield as Switzerland, Montecasino is proud to host the first ever South African Tattoo, and as General Manager I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you personally.

A tradition born in an ancient land and adopted in major cities throughout the world, the Tattoo, with over 500 local and international performers is set to thrill local audiences - it's definitely going to be a great show!

What better venue to showcase the best in enthralling, foot-tapping, heart-pounding cultural extravaganza than an authentic Tuscan village in the heart of Johannesburg? Aside from the rolling hills of Ireland and Scotland themselves, Montecasino provides the perfect backdrop to what is set to become a popular annual event.

As Gauteng's premier entertainment destination, there's something for everyone at Montecasino. There are a myriad of lifestyle and entertainment events set to be staged at Montecasino in the near future and we'd love you to come back and enjoy some of them with us. For further information please do not hesitate to visit our website on www.montecasino.co.za.

I trust you will enjoy this enchanting cultural experience with us.

Yours in tradition,
Steve Howell

This is the South African Tattoo and it belongs to all South Africans.

The South African Tattoo is so much more than mass entertainment. It is a showcase of strength, discipline, morale & unity (esprit de corps). When you combine strength in numbers, discipline through precision, morale from music and unity for a common cause, anything is possible.

I have been humbled and amazed by the people of our country. It has taken over 1 000 people to organise, market and perform in the South African Tattoo, most of them volunteers. The show has sold to an audience of over 22 000. Thank you to each and every one for your support and for making this a success.

To those who stood firmly beside me; Nellie Carter, Peter Mann, Rob Collins, Rory Bellingan, Gavin Anderson, Anthony Evans and Shendl Leahy, we can all be proud of our achievement.

To Tsogo Sun Gaming & Montecasino thank you for your support and for providing such a perfect venue. You gave it your all, down to the finest detail.

A special thanks to our strategic partners;
Jacaranda 94.2, SABC 2 and Southern Sun — without your support this show would never have happened.

Welcome to the producers from the Edinburgh & Basel Tattoos and thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas in the Tattoo spirit of friendship, ensuring that every year Tattoos around the world exhibit new and exciting performances to thrill audiences time and time again.

Top Secret from Switzerland, a warm welcome to our shores, an international guest appearance of your calibre will be a hard act to follow for future international guests.

The South African Tattoo is set to become an annual event on the South African calendar and every year we will showcase our unique traditions and cultures and say to the rest of the world; this is our country and we are proud of it!
